Audi . How to Find the Gear Ratio in a GMCManufacturers gear their vehicles for better mileage and maximum performance. Gear ratio determines the amount of end power and speed a vehicle has. In measuring the GMC gear ratio, the higher the gear ratio number, the lower the average gear speed/power. Vehicles with higher gear ratios do better in terms of mileage because the engine has to work less with the higher gears. Thus, finding the gear ratio is a must for you to determine the performance of your vehicle. Difficulty:Moderate Instructions Things You'll Need Wheel blocks Jack stands Step by Step : 1 Park the vehicle on a paved, level surface. 2 Place a wheel block in front of each front wheel. 3 Use a jack to raise the vehicle and put two jack stands just under the axle tubes at the rear near each wheel. Make sure the tires spin freely. 4 Watch the pinion yoke rotate while rotating one tire exactly one revolution by hand. The pinion yoke is a T-shaped metal piece that locks the U-joint in place. 5 Count the number of times the pinion yoke makes a revolution. This is the gear ratio. 6 Open the glove box on the car's compartment and look for a sticker with a "U" symbol followed by a code. This is the RPO or Regular Production Option code. If you cross reference this code with your vehicle's service manual, it will tell you the gear ratio as well.

*After you finish the job and bring the brake fluid level in the master cylinder back to "Full" for the last time, drive the vehicle around the block. The brake pedal should no longer feel spongy when you depress it. If it does, check the master cylinder again to be sure that it's full and try bleeding the brakes one more time (this situation isn't unusual, and it doesn't take as long as it sounds). If you know that no air is left in the lines and the brakes still don't feel right, you may need a new master cylinder. You should definitely consider installing it yourself — at an auto class. All it involves is disconnecting the old master cylinder (a bolt or two and the hoses leading to the brake lines), removing it without spilling brake fluid on anything painted, installing the new one, filling it with brake fluid, and bleeding it. If the job seems like too much of a hassle, have a professional do the work. You shouldn't have to pay for much labor, and if you choose a brake shop wisely, the whole deal shouldn't cost too much.
